HYO Grand Finale Spring Concerts – Music Inspired by Indigenous (Native) Americans

2-4pm: Novice Strings, Intermezzo, Concert, and Philharmonia Orchestras will feature music inspired by Native Americans from South America (Aztec Dance by Michael Story) all the way to Canada (Land of the Silver Birch by VirginiaCroft).
4-6pm: The Sinfonia and the Huntsville Youth Symphony will feature music inspired by Native Americans. Selections include the “Indian Suite” by Edward McDowell and a portion of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” The young Armenian duduk scholar and virtuoso, Arsen Petrosyan, will join the Huntsville Youth Symphony, performing a concerto for duduk and orchestra. The duduk is an ancient woodwind instrument with origins dating back to 1500 BC. It is indigenous to Armenia, although variations are found in other regions of the Caucus mountains.
